Welcome to use the Handbook for Global Educationalists. The Handbook highlights practitioners’ point of view and is developed for the use of teachers and school leaders, and other educational professionals.
The Handbook brings together the themes of Global Education and Learning (GEL), Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and different approaches to GEL and the SDGs in practise within and beyond schools. We discuss Whole-school approach, Participatory Education and Co-teaching, Pedagogical Leadership, and School Ecosystems. In addition to these three main themes, the Handbook for Global Educationalists provides examples about whole-school activities around GEL and SDGs in Finland, Portugal and Romania, and reflections from students on how and why to engage, and practitioners regarding their professional development and learning.
The Handbook has been developed within an Erasmus+ funded Global Learning for Sense of Belonging -project. GloBe (2020-2023) was implemented by Civil Society Organisations and Higher Education Institutions from Finland, Portugal and Romania. At the heart of the GloBe was a five step -pedagogical process into which 20 schools and 56 practitioners, ‘global educationalists’, participated. GloBe received Global Education 2020/21 Award by the Global Education Network Europe (GENE).
You may use the Handbook for Global Educationalists in various ways. You may use it as a self-study material to know ‘the basics’ and/or ‘a bit more’ about the main themes. You may t wish to get inspired by what your colleagues in the three countries have done, and perhaps experiment with similar kind of activities within your own school. You may also want to learn about how your colleagues perceived – and now perceive – themselves as ‘global educationalists’, to see what we, educational professionals, share what comes to our thinking, concerns and aspirations. Alternatively, you may use the Handbook with your colleagues, who might not know that much (yet) about GEL and/or SDGs, and with whom you need to build a common understanding about how your school community could do participatory global education in practise. This need came up from our GloBe-teachers and we wish we have been able to respond to that.
Hope the Handbook for Global Educationalist will be of use to
increase knowledge,
develop thinking,
boost ideas,
and inspire brave engagement!
